Methoxy purpose?

I often get asked what is the purpose of the Methoxy end on several of our diblock copolymers. The methoxy endcap is a non-reactive addition so as to only allow formation of the polyester chain on one side of the PEG block. This is not to be confused with "maleimide" or "-NHS" or "-COOH" ends which are present to allow for further chemical conjugation. The methoxy is chemically inert but has little to no affect on the hydrophilicity of the PEG arm.
